The importance of feeling happy, is stimulated by a substance that's called Dopamine is the specific happiness hormone that makes you feel good about yourself. The hormones like Serotonin are also responsible for this. People with depression mostly have a lack Serotonine. When you have Parkinsons, you are not able to make Dopamine. And for instance ADHD, there is an inbalance between the neurotransmitters dopamine and adrenaline. You need dopamine to plan thought processes, to act purposefully and to steer your emotions and motivation in the right direction. But there are many more neurotransmitters, like glutamate, GABA and norepinephrine. All essentinal to function well, and have a healthy mind. For this you can visit our psychiatrist. Althought we try to pursue to precribe as less medicins as possible. For a successfull therapy, it's important to have a clear mind and be in contact with your inner self.
Lot of neurotransmitters can be created or blocked by events: social contacts can make you happy, watching a scary move will raise your adrenaline or also called epinephrine (our flight or fight hormone). If we suffer more negative event, we get stressed, depressed and feel lost. This can be in relationships, as parent, during study and work. We all will know lot of examples. If your situation is out of balance, it's time to visit us for psychotherapy.
Then we have the environment conditions. Lack of sunlight creates depression. Vitamine D is essential to keep cheered up. Same for rainy days. How many hours you sleep? Are you up till early morning? Do you exercise or go to a gym? Are there money problems? Most mental health problems are related to these secondary circumstances. Unfortunately we cannot help with all. It's depends on your will to improve your habbits.
And the forth influence is what we drink and eat. The ingredients we take are essential for our mood. Alcohol not damage only your liver, also your brains. Vitamines are good, so are hydrocarbonates and proteine. But not too much, not to less. It differs from person to person. We give structural advice about nutrition in our clinic during our medical consult as well as in CBT training.
